The Warren G. Stambaugh Memorial Foundation was established in 1991 to honor the memory of Delegate Warren G. Stambaugh, who served in the Virginia General Assembly from Arlington for 17 years. Throughout his career, Delegate Stambaugh fought for the rights of persons with mental and physical disabilities and for services and opportunities to assist them. The Foundation, established by friends and colleagues of Warren, is an effort to continue his work and to fulfill his ambitions for persons with disabilities.
The WGSMF is a public foundation organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes. The Foundation, a Virginia non-stock corporation, has received its designation as a 501(C)(3) charitable organization from the Internal Revenue Service. All proceeds raised by the Foundation will be used over the life of the Foundation to make grants in keeping with the Foundation’s Mission. Its Board of Directors, all of whom serve voluntarily, included present and former members of the Virginia General Assembly and colleagues of Delegate Stambaugh from both the public and private sectors.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Warren G. Stambaugh Memorial Foundation is to support public and private organizations in the Commonwealth of Virginia, which provide assistance to persons with disabilities. The Foundation’s goal is to fund needed services, programs and activities, which have a direct impact on the day-to-day life of Virginia’s disability community. Such support may include grants and scholarships to individuals or organizations consistent with Delegate Stambaugh’s interests and philosophy.
